Garden descriptions

1. Kate Aley and Simon Alary
3259 Route 148, Luskville

With stunning views of the Ottawa River and the Gatineau Hills, our wildlife-friendly gardens are open and naturalized, featuring sweet corn, raspberries, giant sunflowers, heirloom vegetables and a sunken garden in the old farmhouse's foundation. Creators: Ruby Ewen (silk scarves), Alfons Kuhn (ginseng), Eternal Seed (heirloom seed company).

2. Kathy Letts & Erwin Mohr

Our Angus cow herd and feedlot farm is protected by the Gatineau Park hills and operates within Quebec's Agro-Environmental guidelines. Light lunch offered. Creators: Katharine Fletcher (books), Linda Hobbs (quilts), Judy Bedell (hooked rugs).

3. Gilles & Christine Marcotte
Hillside Green Centre, 315 Clarendon Street, Quyon, 819-458-2324

On the outskirts of Quyon with panoramic views from our hillside, our perennial and annual mixed gardens also include a variety of fruit trees. Large greenhouses contain annuals, perennials, vegetables and plants. Featuring Evelyn Sempels (honey), Greg Graham (apple cider), Jim Earl (wood work), Mike Harry (jewellery) and five diverse painters: Alice Dolan, Cathy Dolan, Cheryl Dolan, Diane Hills, and Nicole Lavoie.

4. MaryEllen & Bob Young

Purchased in 1991, we call our home "The Cottage", although we moved in full time 1999. The grounds have been a work in progress ever since. Situated on the Ottawa River, the original property belonged to Valley folklore legend Bernie Bredore, author of "Big Joe Mufferaw". Creators: Joanne Labadie (hand-crafted soaps), Betty Russell (paintings), Carol Howard Killoran (Thorne Craft fused glass creations).

5. Kelly’s Garden Center
115 Rte. 148, Shawville, 819-647-3007

Kelly's is proud to be part of the tour. During your stop here, we will discuss such topics as different types of fertilizers and the appropriate usage of them. We will also offer tips on how to put your perennials "to bed" for winter. Keep digging!

6. Ron Hodgins and Robert Miller
R&R Farms, C776 7th Line, Shawville, 819-647-6001, randrfarms.ca

Twelve kilometres west of Shawville, nestled into a hillside, our picturesque R&R Farms features a garden centre with four acres of vegetables. Flower gardens-as well as our cattle, donkeys, horse and dogs-further enhance our property. Shawville Fair director Dorothy Morrison will present fair classes as well as flower arrangements.
